Fall 2010 Internship Recruitment

The Partners in Policymaking Internship (PIP 1) is being offered in Fall of 2010. The face-to-face seminar session will held in Anchorage, September 14-16th, 2010, followed by weekly online sessions through November 19, 2010.

The advanced phase of the Partners in Policymaking Internship (PIP II) is being offered in Fall of 2010! The face-to face seminar will be held in Anchorage on September 21-23, 2010, followed by weekly online sessions through November 22, 2010. Prerequisite: Partners in Policymaking Internship (PIP I) or waiver from PIP Coordinator, Kathy Fitzgerald.

Deadline: Applications should be returned no later than Aug. 19, 2010.

Travel and expenses are paid by Partners in Policymaking & you do not need to live in Anchorage to be eligible.

Both PIP I and PIP II will also be offered in Spring 2011, dates to be determined.

What you learn:

The Partners in Policymaking internship is a training opportunity to help you learn to be an effective advocate for yourself or someone you care about. The training is designed for individuals with disabilities behavioral/mental health disorders, elders, people with long-term care needs, and family members. As part of the training you will:

  • Learn strategies for planning and participating in advocacy efforts;
  • Explore ways to help individuals maintain authority and control of their lives;
  • Identify local and statewide leadership opportunities;
  • Practice effective communication strategies to promote change.

  • Intensive training institute (3 day face-to-face in Anchorage)

  • Materials to support project activities

Your commitment/expectation:

  • Approximately 10 hours per week working on training activities;
  • Participation in weekly intern meetings, either face-to-face or by computer conference (E-live) —you do not have to live in Anchorage to be eligible
  • Willingness to work with other interns and mentors on advocacy activities via phone, e-mail etc.
